How to Put Two Pictures Side by Side in One Image

To put two pictures side by side, add them to an image-merging tool, choose a horizontal layout, and save the pair as one file. A left-to-right arrangement works well when you want someone to see two related views together without opening separate attachments.

This tutorial follows a real Android session in Image Merge. The example combines a coastal cove on the left with a walkway on the right. The demonstration photos are AI-generated; the App screens and saved result are real.

The finished pair contains exactly two photos, arranged left to right in Image Merge.

Choose a pair that reads clearly

Decide what the pair should communicate before opening the editor. Two views of the same place tell a different story from a before-and-after comparison. For a comparison, similar angles and subject sizes make differences easier to see. For a travel pair, a shared color palette can make the photos feel connected.

Our two sources are landscape photos with the same dimensions. That makes the example straightforward. If your pictures have very different shapes, check their balance in the preview rather than expecting the same result as this pair.

Step 1: Add exactly two photos

Open Image Merge and choose Image Merge from the home screen. Tap Add Image to open the Android photo picker. Select your two pictures and confirm with Add (2).

Back in the App, check that the list contains exactly two entries. The first photo in this example becomes the left photo; the second becomes the right photo. The list includes a hold-to-change-order tip. If the pair is reversed, hold an item and move it to the intended position before continuing.

The two-item list confirms that only the cove and walkway were added for this example.

The picker may also show previous exports or screenshots. Select the original photos you intend to use, then check the thumbnails in the App list. Adding a screenshot of an earlier merge would combine that screenshot, including anything already visible inside it.

Step 2: Use the horizontal layout

Tap Image Merge beneath the source list to enter the editor. Open Layout and select Horizontal. Check the preview: the cove should be on the left and the walkway on the right.

The preview and enlarged Layout controls come from the same recorded frame; Horizontal is selected.

Review both outer edges and the join between the photos. The example has no border. If you want a framed pair, open Border and adjust the Border control while watching the preview. Choose a treatment that keeps attention on the photos.

The black area around a wide preview belongs to the editor view. Check the saved image itself to judge the final canvas.

Step 3: Save and inspect the result

Use the Save button at the bottom of the editor. Its quality label can vary with the current export setting. Follow any prompt shown by your version and wait for saving to finish.

In this session, the App opened a Saved page and displayed a location under Pictures/ImageMerge. Open the saved image and confirm that both photos are present, in the right order, with no unexpected framing.

The retrieved JPG matches the recorded horizontal preview. The save confirmation shows the folder used in this Android run.

Inspect the pair at the size your reader will see. A wide image can make fine detail small on a phone. If the comparison depends on tiny labels or text, test readability before sending it.

Where a two-photo pair helps

  • Two angles of an object: keep the subject clearly visible in both photos.
  • Before-and-after work: use comparable framing and put the earlier image first.
  • Two travel scenes: choose views that complement each other, as in this coastal example.

For work comparisons, keep your original photos as well as the combined file. The pair is useful for presentation, while the originals let you inspect each view separately.

FAQ

Does side-by-side merging create a seamless panorama?

This workflow places two separate photos next to each other. The visible boundary remains part of the composition. It does not demonstrate automatic panorama stitching or removal of the join.

Can I stack the pictures instead?

Yes. The same editor has a Vertical option for a top-to-bottom arrangement. Use it when the reading order matters more than showing both pictures across a wide canvas.

What if the saved image looks different from the preview?

Open the actual saved file, check the photo order and framing, and compare it with your editor choices. Confirm that you are viewing the latest export rather than an older file in the album.

Make your own pair

Start with two clearly framed pictures, choose Horizontal in Image Merge, and check the saved file before sharing. A simple pair is often enough when each photo has a clear role.
